Pure and Impure Thoughts
Purity can be a measure of worth, truth, holiness, or homogeneity. It is sometimes a state of preparation and sometimes an end in itself. It is sought, and it is enforced.
This seminar explores theological, sexual, political, and social meanings of purity and impurity across religious traditions and writing genres—particularly as they relate to gay/queer/trans lives and loves.
Conversation is informal, exploratory, and engaged. Readings vary in length and difficulty.
