Samuel Ernest, PhD, is the founding publisher and editor in chief of Homodoxy and The Rearview.
Sam is a writer and theologian. He earned his doctorate in religious studies from Yale University in 2026.
Sam’s academic work focuses on the development of gay theology and HIV/AIDS. His erotic spiritual autobiography has been featured in Roxane Gay’s Emerging Writer Series at The Audacity, Longreads, and Cephalophore, his poetry in &Change. He is the author of Homodoxy’s first book, Coarse Work: Essays in Theology and Gay Life. And with David Trinidad, he is editing a volume of Tim Dlugos’s prose and poetry.
Between 2023 and 2025, Sam was an assistant editor at The Yale Review. He lives in New Haven, CT.
